Welcome

Welcome to Grandma’s Kitchen Sense. My name is Nancy, and yes, I’m a grandma! In my youth, my grandmothers shared a lot of common sense advice that has helped and inspired me over the years. I always remember sitting at kitchen tables and learning from them, as well as other older women among my family and our friends. I discovered how to make do in tough times, how to cook things “from scratch”, use creativity, and just… how to do the myriad things that take life from surviving to living each day. Most of all, it was all done with lots of love. I’m sharing what I know, and what I’ve learned, and hope to learn from others, both old and young.

I’m starting with kitchen stuff, but hoping to branch out to other skills and knowledge for home and family, both vintage and new, that make life easier, and or add some joy or comfort. I hope you’ll find some things you like, information you’ll find interesting, and maybe a recipe or 2 to try, and I’ll look forward to whatever you have to add to the conversation. I’ll also review interesting things I find along the way.

We’ll also talk about modern recipes, appliances, tools, and all of the sites and apps that let you do it all.

If you find yourself (or someone you know) in an emergency situation (homeless, or hungry, sick, or depressed) and need help, I have a starting point for you on my ‘Emergency Info” page. There are lists and contact info for all kinds of help. I hope you’ll be able to find the help you need.
